The Speed Force is an extra-dimensional source of energy where Metahumans known as "Speedsters" draw their power to run at extraordinary speeds, enabling them to utilize a number of abilities including time travel and traveling between dimensions.

History[]

The Speed Force is somewhat sentient, manifesting itself in the forms of those closest to speedsters within the Speed Force to communicate with them. It claims to have been around since the beginning of time itself and will exist until at least the end of the known universe. It is not known yet whether the Speed Force represents a physical or a metaphysical aspect of reality itself.

Barry Allen[]

One night, while working on his late mother's case, Barry Allen was struck by lightning and doused with some nearby chemicals, which granted him access to the Speed Force, and in turn, allowed him to move, think and act at superhuman speeds, as well as to vibrate his body on a microscopic level.

August Heart[]

Grief-stricken by the murder of his own brother, August quickly tracked down his killer to an abandoned electrical facility. Besting him in a fight, August was about to kill the man, before the Flash used the speed force to move the killer out of the way. Unbeknownst to the Flash or August, the speed force generated enough power to restart the electrical plants generators, dosing August with a stream of speed force energy.

Eobard Thawne[]

Thawne was obsessed with the 21st century's Flash, going as far as recreating the accident that gave the Flash his powers.
