The Murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne was a nationwide recognised incident which took place in Gotham City, at the Monarch Theatre.

Incident[]

In the late hours of one December night, an eight year old Bruce Wayne and his parents, owner of Wayne Enterprises Thomas Wayne, and his wife Martha, left the Monarch Theatre, leaving through the back exit. While on their way through the alleyway, low time mugger Joe Chill came up to them, and immediately pulled out his gun. At first only wanting their belongings, Thomas Wayne attempted to stop Chill, resulting in being shot in front of his wife and son. Martha began screaming, causing Chill to shoot her next, killing her instantly. Taking some of their belongings, Chill ran from the scene, leaving their son Bruce alone, where he would witness his father die.

Being among the most important and powerful families in Gotham, the murders hit international news. The GCPD quickly found and detained Chill, and Bruce himself was taken into the care of the families butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Chill was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes, serving out his sentence at Blackgate Penitentiary.

Years later, after being the new CEO of Wayne Enterprises for a few decades, Chill was released from prison. Still wanting revenge against Chill, Bruce tracked down Chill under his guise as Batman. Bruce took out much of his anger on Chill, but refrained from killing him, stating he would never become Chill. Chill would later die of unknown circumstances sometime before the Metahuman Outbreak, though he believed he was killed by one of Gotham's crime lords, believing the true culprit was Carmine Falcone.
