Jonathan "John" Corben was once a journalist working for the Daily Planet in Metropolis. In 2013, Corben became one of the victims of Conduit, who attacked the Daily Planet Building in an attempt to kill Lois Lane, leaving him near dead and his body heavily damaged.

Lex Luthor visited the dying Corben, combining him with the retrieved Conduit's suit and various other technologies, turning Corben into a cyborg.
