- "These Meta-humans as we call them; the basis of our myths, these exceptional being living among us. Heroes to be admired...or even feared."
- ―Lex Luthor to Amanda Waller
A Metahumans, also called Mutants or Superhumans, are individuals (typically humans) who have acquired powers and abilities, or in many instances, enhanced traits such as speed, strength and senses. The cause of this was discovered to be a genetic variant found in a significant portion of human beings called a "metagene".
Unknown to most, Vandal Savage is the first ancestor of all Metahumans, having fathered the first metahumans after his exposure to a meteorite over 50,000 years ago.
Metahumans descended from Homo Magi typically have more incredible abilities such as control of fire, electricity or the ability to teleport.
A metahuman with the ability to run at superhuman speeds is referred to as a "speedster". It was later discovered that Speedsters had a connection to the Speed Force, a dimension containing the energy that allows them to run at extraordinary speeds.
History[]
Millennia after becoming immortal, Vandal Savage would sire numerous children, several of whom carried the first Metagene. Their descendants would become the first Homo Magi. The descendants of these Homo Magi eventually reintegrated into human society.
First Metahuman Outbreak[]
Second Metahuman Outbreak[]
Sometime after the Justice League was founded, an initiative was started to find and recruit any Metahumans they could find around the world. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor and Maxwell Lord began their own initiative,
