Kryptonite is a radioactive xenomineral, native to the planet Krypton. Following Krypton's destruction, almost all of the planets Kryptonite were evaporate or ejected into deep space, with portions of the material later finding its way to the Solar System and eventually Earth.

large chunks of the planet were ejected into space, with a portion of it ending up in the Milky Way Galaxy, and one piece in particular landing on earth. The greatest effect of Kryptonite is its ability to physically and mentally effect Kryptonite.

History[]

Before Krypton's destruction, Kryptonite was located beneath Krypton's surface

it's destruction, a large part of Krypton's mass was made of Kryptonite, though by this point it was harmless to Kryptonians. As Rao went supernova and destroyed Krypton, the energy emitted left most of Krypton's left over mass highly radioactive, and remained radioactive even as some of it made its way to the Milky Way Galaxy. One piece would eventually land on the planet Earth.

Creation of Gold Kryptonite[]

After secretly obtaining a sample of Kryptonite from LexCorp, Bruce Wayne had it studied in the Batcave to find a way to weaken Superman instead of potentially kill him.

Injustice War[]

Zod's Invasion[]

Superman, in a last ditch effort to protect the world in his weakened state, uses Gold Kryptonite to defeat Zod once and for all, permanently losing his own powers in the process.

Characteristics[]

Pure Kryptonite appears green in colour. It is one of the only weaknesses to Kryptonians living on Earth, with its radiation being extremely toxic to them. In small doses, Kryptonite causes humans slight nausea, however, in the case of Al and Beryl Braverman, a large dose of Kryptonite radiation caused them to develop terminal cancer.

According to Cyborg, it causes cellular degeneration in Kryptonians, resulting in them becoming sick with severe fever-like symptoms, including nausea, weakness, dizziness, vertigo, fatigue, and extreme pain. It is shown to significantly reduce their endurance, stamina, strength, and mobility, the last of which causes them to move as slow as a human.

Despite the radioactive properties and effects on Kryptonians, Kryptonite can be blocked like any radioactive element with lead.
